Hamlet

Let us take a closer look at act 3 scene 1, from the play Hamlet. Most people would concentrate on the famous,To be or not to be” part. In the contrary I would like to concentrate on the last part of that scene. This is the part of the play where Hamlet sends Ophelia to a nunnery. As lord Polonius and King Claudius watch the act of madness of the prince breaking up with Ophelia, the convince themselves that the prince has gone mad. The way I interpret it might be different from what most think. The reader might be stock on the part of where Prince Hamlet talks about wanting to commit suicide. This is the part of the scene that attracts all the attention. The way I see it he is trying to save Ophelia from this tragedy that he knows is waiting to happen. The way the movie shows it is better because it is a play and is meant to be performed. One can read the play, but when performed in front of you, it is another experience, like the video. From reading the play we might think that he is just becoming mad and that is why he reacts like that. What I perceive is that he is really trying to send Ophelia away to that she is far from this mess in the kingdom. He tells her he does not love her but does and is trying to protect her. In this scene, one can say that Prince Hamlet is really trying to play insanely clever. He knows very well what he is doing in front of his father-in-law and the king, this will convince them even more of his mental problems. At the same time is sending Ophelia to a nunnery as an alternative. I decided to choose this scene because I felt it was extremely dramatic. I also caught Prince Hamlet playing his cards extremely well. Only clever people know how to play dumb skillfully, to convince the people of something they are not.
